Kaien Shimizu, Health Planner and Architect
With over 30 years of experience, Kaien Shimizu has been responsible for the functional programming of major research laboratories, public facilities, health care and postsecondary education projects, across Canada. In his capacity as a programmer at Resource Planning Group Inc., he has brought added depth and breadth to the firm, particularly in the areas of master planning and in research laboratory, correctional and educational facilities planning. At APRA, Kaien had prepared functional programs for public works yards in Edmonton and for the multi-million dollar expansion to the Ballard Power in Burnaby. He is currently completing the functional program for the $60 million expansion of the Earth Systems Science Building at UBC.
Kaien has collaborated with Cohos Evamy on a number of major projects in Alberta including the Master Plan for the Foothills Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital North Tower Expansion, and the Health Sciences Ambulatory Learning Centre in Edmonton.
