Equipment and Supplies
equipment

The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital suffers, often critically from shortages in supplies and equipment. It is common to locate malfunctioning equipment that is abandoned instead of repaired due to the absence of the appropriate replacement parts or the unavailability of biomedical engineers and technicians. Often equipment prematurely deteriorates and is consequently irreparable due to tropical environmental conditions and a lack of an artificially stabilized environment appropriate to support the equipment. Frequently, insufficient financial resources lead to an inability to procure essential pieces of equipment.

Supplies are often in dire need and this lack impairs the ability of surgical teams to operate or maintain sterile practices. As it stands now, supplies that are intended for one time use are used multiple times for many patients. Acknowledging that HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases are of extreme concern, this practice places patients at additional risk and requires resolution.

Since 2000, our Korle-Bu Neuroscience Foundation members have shipped 11 containers of donated medical equipment and supplies as well as facilitated the shipping of a crate of operating room equipment from Texas, USA to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Gifts of quality medical equipment, medical supplies, education material, and storage space are greatly needed and much appreciated. For further contact please refer to our contact page.

It is very clear that in order to operationally sustain the Korle-Bu Neuroscience Center of Excellence, it is imperative that quality equipment be acquired and maintained in an environment that will facilitate high quality health care delivery.

Upon completion, the Korle-Bu Neuroscience Center of Excellence will be equipped with new or current, high quality equipment. Hospital programmers, and hospital equipment purchasing experts have been acquired to review the Project's equipment needs and provide cost estimates. A detailed listing of the equipment is included in BTY's Schematic Design Cost Estimate.
