2006
- Ghana Ministry of Foreign Affairs endorses promotion of KBNP globally, through all Ghanaian Missions.
- Preliminary Sustainability Report is published showing the viability of such a centre in Ghana.
2005
- Project is formally introduced to Ghanaians living in Toronto, Montreal and the Los Angeles area.
- Korle-Bu Neuroscience Foundation, Ghana is birthed as a non-profit Foundation in Ghana.
- Excellence in Africa Neuroscience and Health, Canada is birthed to provide the operation charity for the KBNP i.e. to fund the development of the Korle-Bu Neuroscience Centre of Excellence.
- A “Project Brief” outlining the need and plan of action for creating the Korle-Bu Neuroscience Centre of Excellence is produced.
2004
- Preliminary sketches and conceptual layout prepared by architectural firm Hughes Condon Marier. Preliminary schematic design stage prepared by BTY Group
- Korle-Bu Foundation, a federally registered Public Charity, is birthed to provide Canadian donors tax receipts.
- Neurology needs assessment conducted in Ghana by Canadian Neurologist. Initial planning commences to develop a Neurology program.
- Initial launch of the KBNF website. Further needs assessment in the area of biomedical technology conducted by Canadian members visiting Ghana.
- Fund raising initiatives are launched.
2003
- The KBNP is officially registered as a non-profit foundation provincially (KBNF-B.C.). Creative functioning of action committees progress, committees form in both Ghana and Canada working to develop and implement strategies for the present and future development of Neuroscience in Ghana dealing with human resources (manpower) and infrastructure (building, equipment and operational sustainability).
- Parallel collaborative teams in Ghana and Vancouver are created to establish and manage accountably the progress of work.
2002
- A formal proposal is written to establish a Neuroscience Centre of Excellence, and launched with the approval and support of the Government of Ghana, the University of Ghana and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
- Vancouver, Canada committee members conduct fact-finding and needs assessment visit. The formal launching of the Project in Ghana strengthens the vision for neuroscience.
2001
- A sisterhood agreement is signed between the Korle-Bu (Ghana) and Vancouver General (Canada) Hospitals.
- The first of many containers containing donated medical equipment and supplies is sent to Ghana by the Korle-Bu
2000
- The Korle-Bu Neuroscience Project (KBNP) is birthed. A committee in neuroscience is formed to provide educational and equipment support.
1999
- A Ghanaian neurosurgeon commences a year’s additional training in neuroscience at Vancouver General Hospital.
